The partners of Project DELTA (Digital Excavation through Learning and Training in Archaeology) are looking for participants for the Digital Excavation blended Course running on the 10th May 2021 until the 30th July 2021.
What can you expect?
DELTA (Digital Excavation through Learning and Training in Archaeology) is a transnational project that brings together 4 partners from 3 European countries: Hellenic Open University, DAISSy research group (project coordinator), Department of History and Archaeology –National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Basilicata, Department of Archaeology and Museology - Masaryk University. DELTA integrates the excavation site as an instructional tool in a classroom-based instruction of Archaeologists using digital means.
DELTA operate in the design and development of a blended course entitled “Digital Excavation” containing 4 modules:
- Digital Tools for Archaeological Practice/ Excavation;
- Documentation in situ and after excavation;
- Digital Preservation of cultural heritage monuments and artifacts;
- Open-Air Museums and Experimental Archaeology.
The DELTA course will enable students of Archaeology to update their knowledge and skills and develop digital and 21st century skills. The training of Archaeology students will follow a blended learning approach, where each student will participate in online and traditional face-to-face learning sessions. The material will be offered in Modules in different forms (theoretical information, tutorials, videos, lectures or online sources).
After completing the blended course, 15 best selected learners (5 students from NKUA, 5 students from UNIBAS and 5 students from Masaryk University) will be able to join an engaging and productive intensive study program of 5 days training which will lead to a joint excavation (ISP).
The ISP (Intensive Study Program) for Higher Education Students will be organized in the excavation field in Marathon, Greece so to test the tools and training materials developed in the blended learning in a joint collaboration with students and professors educators.
Learning and teaching course modules will be interconnected with practice and future employment reality (digital and transferable skills) and competences.
Duration of course
The DELTA blended course (online, face to face, ISP) will be a total of 200 hours. The online and f2f will be of 160 hours and the ISP of 40 hours. Each module will be of 40 hours (32 hours online and 8 hours in class).
Credits: the 200-hours course offers a total of 8 ECTS (6 in blended learning and 2 in ISP).
Who are we looking for?
We welcome applications from those who are interested in the topics, are motivated to learn and share knowledge with an international group of people in the training course.
Criteria for applying are the following:
The enrollment in the blended course is open to all University students of Archaeology.
Prerequisite: have fulfilled at least two years of study in their University.
Priority: the registration is open to all, but a priority will be given to Students of Archaeology from the project partners (Department of History and Archaeology – National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Basilicata, Department of Archaeology and Museology - Masaryk University).
The prerequisite and criteria for the selection of the 15 students participating in the ISP in Marathon (Greece) are:
Two year University course attendance (official certificate of registration to the third year). Only University students of Archaeology from the project partners are eligible (Department of History and Archaeology – National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Basilicata, Department of Archaeology and Museology - Masaryk University).
Criteria:
- Successful completion of the online course in MOOC
- Successful completion of all face to face activities
- Completion of all Evaluation Forms in the Platform.

Other information
The DELTA training course is free of charge. All successful learners will be awarded with a Certification of Completion and Open Badges. The Course will be provided in English.
