Press Release of the Greek multiplier event
On Thursday, December 10th 2020, the event on "The DELTA project and digital skills in the field of Culture and Archeology" was held online through the MS Teams platform with great success within the European project DELTA. The event was organized by the DAISSy research team of the Hellenic Open University, with the participation of the Department of History and Archeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a partner of the DELTA project on behalf of Greece.
Professor of the School of Science and Technology of HOU, Director of the DAISSy research group and Scientific Coordinator of the DELTA project, Mr. Achilleas Kameas, opened the event with a short greeting. The first part of the event included the presentation - introduction by Mr. Achilleas Kameas, the content and objectives of the DELTA project and the description of other European projects on culture and digital skills, where the DAISSy research team participates as a coordinator or as partner.
This presentation was followed by a description of the first results of the research carried out in the framework of the DELTA project by the consortium for the digital needs and skills of Archaeologists in Greece, Italy and the Czech Republic in the first months of the project (January - March 2020). The research included a desk research and online survey to identify the needs and necessary skills of archaeologists as well as the offered study programs aiming at the development of social and digital skills. The results of the research are available online on the DELTA project website. The presentation was made by Mr. Giannis Papadatos, Associate Professor of Prehistoric Archeology, Department of History and Archaeology of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of the University excavation of EKPA in Plasi Marathon.
In the first section of the event participated Ms. Panagiota Polymeropoulou, Panagiota Polymeropoulou, Archaeologist - Museologist MSc., Researcher at the DAISSy Research Group, Hellenic Open University. Her presentation related to the content of the mixed learning course that will be designed and developed by the consortium in the framework of the DELTA project, with information about the teaching units that will be taught as well as the methodology followed for the creation of the DELTA course entitled "Digital Excavation”. The course will be offered by the consortium in the year 2021 from the massive open online learning platform of DAISSy, HOU.
The first section of the event closed with the presentation of Mrs. Antigoni Kalara, PhD Candidate in Prehistoric Archeology, Department of History and Archeology - National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her presentation was about the importance of data documentation and the use of digital tools in the excavation and post-excavation phase with its advantages and limitations.
The second section of the event was about cultural issues and in particular the presentation of European projects on culture and the new digital skills of cultural professionals.
Mrs. Vicky Maratou, Project Manager of the SILVHER project and Researcher at DAISSy Research Group, HOU presented the content of the European project SILVHER - Safeguarding Intangible culturaL Values and HERitage and specifically the 3 modules of the mixed learning course, developed by the consortium. The course is available online for University students in Italy, Portugal and Turkey. DAISSy HOU participates in the SILVHER project as a lead partner for the development and management of the educational platform of the course.
Mrs. Panagiota Polymeropoulou, Project Manager of the EUHeritage project and Researcher at DAISSy Research Group, HOU presented the content and objectives of the European project EUHERIT and specifically the results of the research conducted by the consortium during the first months of the project. The results of the research are available online on the project website. Within EUHerit the consortium will develop a mixed learning course for professionals and students in the field of culture and tourism management. The course will be offered by the consortium in the year 2021 from the massive open online learning platform of DAISSy, HOU.
The second section of the event was completed with the presentation of Mrs. Marlene Mouliou, Assistant Professor of Museology, Department of History & Archeology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Mrs. Mouliou presented the topic of Public Archeology as well as the educational activities organized by NKUA in the area of the excavation in Plasi of Marathon, creating an experiential interactive experience for pupils and students.
The event attended students and graduates of study programs related to Culture and Archeology from HOU, NKUA, AUTh, UTH, Univ. Of Crete, Professors of Archeology, researchers, working archaeologists from the Ministry of Culture as well as institutions of culture, museums and archeology.
The event was organized online due to the epidemiological data of the country during this period. It was a huge success, attracting more than 145 participants in Teams, while it was also significantly promoted on social media. Due to the limited number of seats on Teams, the event was broadcast live on the DAISSy YouTube channel with over 320 views to date.
The event ended with a conversation with the audience and answers to questions that arose during the event. The participants showed their interest to attend similar events and actions in the framework of the DELTA project, participating in the online questionnaire of satisfaction - evaluation which was distributed during the event.
