After the disruptions caused by the COVID, and 7 months after the successful completion of the DELTA ISP, the excavation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at Marathon commenced again on Wednesday 4 May 2022, under the direction of Assc. Prof. Yiannis Papadatos, member of the DELTA project.
For 5 weeks, until 3 June, the Marathon excavation will become the training ground for 142 students of archaeology of the NKUA. Also, the excavation will host 6 students from other European universities, as part of a Summer School entitled “The archaeology of death. Training in archaeothanatology for archaeologists”, organized by the CIVIS European University (https://civis.eu/en/civis-courses/the-archaeology-of-death-training-in-archaeothanatology-for-archaeologists-1)
As every year, digital technologies will play an important role not only in excavation methodology, but also in teaching and training students in the field.
